Achilles

Achilles-1995-11/2008

Achilles was the first dog I owned after I moved out on my own. After I bought my first house, I went down to the animal shelter to look at dogs. He was sitting in the middle of his kennel shaking, and wouldn't even respond to his name (which was Kasper at the time). I asked to see him, and he was so happy to be out of the kennel. The shelter staff said "let's walk him by the cats and see what he does", since I had a kitty at home already. He dug in and did not want to go back into the kennel area. We did get him into the cat area, and he totally ignored them. There was no way I was going to leave him there. The only info on him was that his previous owners didn't want him anymore. He had no idea what his name was, and he had obviously heard the word sit, but no one had taught him what it meant. He also had not been allowed in the house much, as when I got him home and in the back yard, he wouldn't come back in. When I called him, he came to the door, but looked at me like I was tricking him, trying to get him in the house.

He learned his new name immediatley, and anything else I wanted him to learn. He just needed someone to actually teach him!

He loved to play with the neighbor dogs, Wolfie and Keiko.>>>>>>>>>>>

He also loved to play with his brother Hector.

Achilles and Jackaroo are having fun playing too.

He even enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and greeting the kids at the door.>>>>>>>>>

And he didn't mind napping with someone else.

Achilles was a really great dog, who enjoyed life and never complained even when he developed a fast growing bladder tumor. He slowed down a bit, he would chase his kong once, grab it and run into the house to rest, but he never stopped greeting me with a wagging tail and a bounce. It was very difficult to make the decision that the time had come to put him to sleep, but he knew it was time, and he went peacefully in my arms. I still miss him, and hope that he is waiting at the Rainbow bridge.
